Reviewing a MyFreeview|HD DVR
Posted by Nick in Hardware, The Wonderful Internet, Wellington on November 15, 2009
After Mauricio (the Geekzone BDFL) asked me to review the JCMatthew DVR-320T I wasn’t sure what to expect. Now I can honestly say that I am happy to do this. I will try to be as impartial as possible and provide the readers with a no-nonsense review. My tone will be as non-technical as possible and I will strive to explain the slang as clearly as I can.
So I’ve started this reviewing journey that you can follow here. I will not be cc-ing my review to this blog but I will be taking questions via this post if there are any.
So feel free to drop me a line if you feel like it.

The mouse is dying
I would call it nano-mouse just because is sounds cool (to me).
Simtrix have just shown off their baby. It is a brilliant stick-to-my-finger device that makes copy pasting a breeze. No longer will you have to take your hand off your keyboard, when you work on a laptop you will no longer have to use the touchpad, things will just be easier and more intuitive.
There are two versions of this beauty called Swiftpoint device. They both sit between your index finger and your thumb.
The TriPed
The TriPed can be used as a pen but not only.
Simtrix say: “The device provides seamless transitioning between mouse, pen, and text entry without introducing any of the compromises typically associated with pen or touch interfaces”. I agree
Is it not cute? Oh by the way the two buttons you see at the top of the device are basically your left and right click buttons.
The Slider
This is what most of us will be using (the TriPed is appropriate for tablet owners.

That’s it for now.

One quick question
Do you remember AMD?
Now honestly, when did you last think about whether it would be worthwhile to choose an AMD micro-processor for your next PC?

TiVo is coming to NZ for sure!
TiVo will come to New Zealand one way or the other
Actually TiVo will come to all houses, everywhere.
TiVo is poised to break out from the confines of the set-top box and into the PC. The DVR maker and Nero, creators of the popular CD- and DVD-burning software, are partnering to bring TiVo to upcoming versions of Nero. The newly announced agreement means that TiVo's much-loved interface and ease of use will be available to owners of any PC with a TV tuner card or USB dongle. says ArsTechnica
So all that users need now is a PC that works with a TV tuner card, DVB card, etc. I am curious to see if there will be any operating system restrictions, I mean TiVo has been running linux for such a long time while Nero is mainly a Windows application.
Cheers…
