WelliBUS
WelliBUS is your Wellington travel companion. Starting with August 2011 it includes real time information, being the first mobile application to provide this service to Wellingtonians.
Find stops nearby (GPS) or search for any stop/route in the region. WelliBUS includes timetables for:
- buses
- trains
- the cable car
- the ferry
- and other services (e.g. The Naked Bus) that stop in Wellington
All the timetable information is bundled with the application so you can use it on your iPod Touch as well as on your iPhone.
WelliBUS enables you to:
- see real time arrival information for the services that are equipped with GPS
- find services departing from a particular stop or street
- find the nearest stops/platforms (using the built in GPS) or by typing the name your the street
- filter services by time or bus number
- OFFLINE use, iPod Touch users can now use it as a pocket timetable
- use the nearby stop overlay map, with more data to come
- save favourites and aliases
- get directions between any two addresses (uses Google Maps to display direction and navigation information)
- use the built-in feature suggestion
Whereas WelliBUS 1 used to connect to a web server to pull all its data, WelliBUS 2 now comes with a bundled database. This means that you iPod Touch users as well as iPhone owners can find relevant timetable information regardless of their coverage.
You can download the latest version from here.

Will you be making it available to itouch generation one devices? The current version won’t install due to no microphone. Would love to use it if I could get it to install.

Hi Duncan,
The latest WelliBUS update should enable the application for 1st gen iPod touches.
Cheers…

A very useful App. I like the favourites, but I would like to be able to store the buses I select. e.g. I often catch the bus from stop 5010 – Cable Car on Lambton Quay. Out of the 40+ buses offered I am only interested in 4 of them.

Thanks for the comment John.
Version 2.5.1 will bring the feature you are after. The implementation is done and the application is now being tested.
Cheers…

Hi,
Love the Wellibus app but it keeps crashing straight after the splash screen on my iPad running the latest ios and just after I bought the alerts upgrade.

Hi Chris,
Just posting to let you know that we have identified and resolved the problem. If you install the next OS upgrade in November (4.2) the problem will simply go away. It is due to a bug in Apple’s code I’m afraid and there’s not much we can do about it…
Regarding the alerts upgrade purchase. Please email us and we will refund you.
Cheers, Nick

Thank you for a great app. Will you be updating it to reflect the new bus stops/route as a result of the Manners Mall changes?
Nick on November 28, 2010 - 10:04 pm
Hi Foodie,
Yes, an update is on the way…
Cheers and please consider using the mobile web tab when not sure, especially during the holiday period. Hopefully the nav buttons I added in the previous release will make it more usable.

Hi Nick – just downloaded it onto Michelle’s ipod touch. She is really impressed and will tell all of her friends. Thank you – see you at Mojo soon.
